Jayne and Sandy gave a presentation on the variations of nine patch quilts and what defines a nine patch. Each presenter provided a handout on the nine-patch explanations and designs. Also, a reminder to all interested is that the WI Historical Society has their collection on-line at www.wisconsinhistory.org. (Go to online collections, quilts, patch, nine-patch) The participants were challenged to find the earliest nine-patch quilt they could and the winners would win fat-quarters of fabrics. Maribeth Schmit and Nancy Kunst Smith found a picture of a quilt from 1813. Joey Mahieu came in second with her find. It was a great way to do research on quilts before we got to the meeting. Everyone brought quilts from home that had nine patches. Pictures of some of them are below: Lunch and discussion was great. Thank you Jayne and Sandy. |
